Built in 1769, this is the oldest house in Raleigh. In 1792 Joel Lane sold the state the 1,000 acres the capital was laid out on, which is why he is called the Father of Raleigh. Every visit is a free guided tour of about an hour, starting at the visitor center. Tours run Wednesday to Friday at 10, 11, noon and 1, and Saturday at 1, 2 and 3. School groups can bump public tours, so call ahead.
